Othman Ihab Saad
Professor Ihab Saad Othman, MD, FRCS, is Professor of Ophthalmology at Kasr Al-Ainie University Hospital, Cairo University, Egypt (March 2011 to present).
He is the Founder and Chairman of EyeWorld Hospital, Dokki, Giza, Egypt (2005 to present), Vice President of MEACO, and Senior Consultant in Vitreoretinal and Ocular Oncology Services at the National Eye Center, Rod El-Farag, Cairo (2000 to present). He is also Ambassador of TFOS for the Middle East and Africa.
Dr. Othman completed his residency at Cairo University, where he received his Master’s degree in Ophthalmology in 1995. His post-doctorate fellowship was at Université Claude-Bernard, Lyon, France (1996–1997). He then completed a fellowship in Ophthalmic Oncology at Wills Eye Hospital, Philadelphia (1997–1999) under Drs. Jerry and Carol Shields, followed by a vitreoretinal clinical fellowship at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville (1999–2000) under Drs. Brian Conway and James Tiedemann. He received his Doctorate from Cairo University in 1999.
In 2000 he founded the first Ophthalmic Oncology Centre in Egypt, inaugurated in 2003. In 2007 he introduced ex-vivo expanded stem cells on amniotic membrane to Egypt, and in 2010 the Boston permanent keratoprosthesis type 1, in cooperation with Harvard Medical School and Dr. Roberto Pineda. He is actively involved in providing accredited fellowships in ophthalmology at EyeWorld Hospital in cooperation with ICO and IOFF.
