Koçak Nilüfer
Nilüfer Koçak, M.D., FEBO was born in April 1972 and currently resides in Izmir, Turkey. She graduated with high honors (ranked fifth in her class) from the Faculty of Medicine at Dokuz Eylul University, Izmir, in 1996. In the same year, she began her residency at the Department of Ophthalmology at Dokuz Eylul University. She earned her specialty in ophthalmology in 2000, was promoted to Associate Professor in 2007, and became a Full Professor in 2013. She continues to serve as a faculty member at the same institution.
Since 2004, Prof. Koçak has been an active member of several subspecialty units of the Turkish Ophthalmological Association (TOA), including the Medical Retina, Vitreoretinal Surgery, and Cataract and Refractive Surgery units. She has also served as the General Assembly Delegate of the İzmir Branch of the TOA since 2006. In 2008, she was awarded the Fellow of the European Board of Ophthalmology (FEBO) title.
Her international academic experience includes:
- Observership at the Doheny Eye Institute, Los Angeles, USA – 1998
- Research Fellowship in the Retina Unit, University of Rochester School of Medicine, New York – 2003
In 2011, she was selected by the Turkish Ophthalmological Association to represent Turkey as a speaker at the European Society of Ophthalmology (SOE) congress.
Prof. Koçak served in the following roles:
- 2012–2016: Executive Board Member, TOA Medical Education and Career Planning Unit
- 2016–2022: Board Member, TOA Vitreoretinal Surgery Unit
- 2021–2022: Educational Representative, TOA Vitreoretinal Surgery Unit
- 2024–present: Secretary, TOA Vitreoretinal Surgery Unit (re-elected to Executive Board)
