Sibel Demirel, M.D., FEBO, Disso (Esaso graduate), is a professor of ophthalmology at the Ankara University Medical Faculty Department of Ophthalmology. She specializes in the management of retinal diseases, retinal imaging, and vitreoretinal surgery. She has an active clinical and vitreoretinal surgery practice while she teaches students, residents, and fellows at Ankara University Faculty of Medicine Department of Ophthalmology as Professor of Ophthalmology. Dr. Demirel authored more than 100 peer-reviewed international articles and book chapters and as well as given presentations, lectures and done live surgery at international and national ophthalmology conferences and meetings. She has been the co-investigator on more than 10 international clinical trials investigating novel treatments for age-related macular degeneration and vascular diseases. She is the principal investigator of an ongoing research granted by The Scientific and Technological Research Council of Turkey.
She finished her scholarship period at the Stanley M. Truhlsen Eye Institute, University of Medical Center, Nebraska, USA, under Professor Diana Do and Professor Quan Dong Nguyen’s supervision. Dr. Demirel is a faculty member of ESASO and has an active duty in the operational committee of ESASO (European School for Advanced Studies) in Lugano, Switzerland. She is an active board member of the Young Ophthalmologist Retinal Imaging Society affiliated with the Italian Society of OCT Angiography. Dr. Demirel is a member of the Turkish Ophthalmology Association, Turkish Ophthalmology Association Medical Retina Division, Turkish Ophthalmology Association Surgical Retina Division, American Society of Retina Specialists, European Society of Retina Specialists, and European Vitreoretinal Society.
