20th Meeting of EVRS was held from 31st August to 3rd September 2023 in Cappadocia Perissia Hotel.
The European Vitreo-Retinal Society: Coming back with a roar!
On August 31st 2023, the European VitreoRetinal Society had a four-day international congress in Cappadocia, Turkey which was attended by more than 500 delegates from 53 countries. This meeting which focuses mainly on retinal pathologies, approaches and treatments, is generally held in one of the European countries or in those immediately adjacent to the European area.
The meeting did not take place in the years 2020 to 2022 due to the pandemic and travel restrictions applied around the globe; however, educational activities continued with webinars during this period and a one-day live surgery event in April 2022.
The European VitreoRetinal Society also accepts with openness members coming from outside the confines of Europe and it has now become a global reality. For a community of eye specialists with strong support coming from its ophthalmology members, the congress started on a high note and ended with a bang!
Sengul Ozdek, together with Giampaolo Gini, the president as well as with Barbara Parolini and the organizers gathered the best eye doctors from all over Europe and also from around the world, to attend the scientifically-engaging sessions in a friendly and open-minded manner. With its attendance, the whole of Cappadocia, Turkey was filled with eager members who listened and enjoyed the magical surroundings.
The opening night in Perissia Hotel provided an opportunity for members to meet and greet each other. The gala night was well attended in the Uchisar Kaya Hotel, which was carved out of Cappadocian rock. On the second night, awards were given to the following:
Best Oral Presentation Award – Mageed Gerges
Best Video Presentation Award – Şengül Özdek
Best Poster Presentation Award – Dilek Güven
A special award, the EVRS Ambassador Award was given by the incumbent president, Giampaolo Gini, to David Pelayes and Perfecto R. Cagampang III.
The farewell night proved to be a show-stopping event that showcased the talents of some of its members. The officers opened the event to the tune of Jennifer Lopez’s “Papi” followed by the Eurovision song contest in true Karaoke style. David Martins, Lalit Agarwal, Melda Yenerel, Güngör Sobacı, David Diamint and Barbara Parolini followed by the winner Elçin Süren who sang with a flute musical show
The European VireoRetinal Society, has once again spread its wings and is now ready to soar to more congresses in the future.
